When the French Postal Administration decided to replace the postal department numbers it delivered to Monaco the circular dat-estamp MONACO/Alpes Maritimes as seen on this envelope. The Prince was displeased finding it quite disparaging and it was soon replaced again by the well known MONACO/Principaute. There are few known examples of the former still exiting, this being the finest.
